At our May 7th Women’s Group, the ladies and their daughters were honored with a very elegant Mother-Daughter High Tea. This wonderful opportunity allowed many of our ladies to repair mother/daughter relationships and for others simply to enjoy being pampered together.
The mothers and daughters took pleasure and enjoyment in an occasion to dress up, to chat leisurely with family and friends, to eat a scrumptious meal and allow our very generous volunteers and staff to serve them.
On February 28, more than thirty Powerhouse teens were reminded that true love is a gift worth waiting for at an elegant dinner prepared by Powerhouse friends Cheryl Sewell and Star Pepper. The “Waiting for True Love” event challenged teens to practice abstinence until marriage, and presented an honest discussion of the consequences faced by young people who choose to engage in premarital sex.
Dinner was served on tables that were beautifully arranged with fine china, white roses, and candlelight. Throughout the evening, dramas were enacted that portrayed typical challenges teens face such as peer pressure, the quest for love, and unplanned pregnancy. Several teens shared real life experiences of how sex before marriage caused devastation in their own lives. The goal of the evening was to help teens define what love truly is – and isn’t – and to help the teens make better choices with their own bodies and hearts. For those who have already suffered the consequences of bad decisions, the group was reminded that God’s power to forgive and restore purity is always available, and His healing love works miracles to mend a broken heart.
We thank Cheryl and Star as well as our volunteer servers and table hosts for helping us strengthen our teens in a fast-paced world that often forgets about the virtues of waiting for true love.
Sixty Powerhouse volunteers were treated to a very special night of fun, food, and entertainment at the Gathering Place Church on February 5 in Folsom. A beautiful sit-down dinner was prepared and served to volunteers by The Gathering Place pastoral staff, and entertainment was provided by the Powerhouse Youth Worship Band.
In addition to honoring all volunteers in attendance, three guests received recognition awards for their outstanding service and dedication to Powerhouse.
All volunteers at the dinner were reminded of the tremendous impact their generosity has on the lives of others when two Powerhouse Transition Center residents shared personal stories of struggle and redemption. The speakers described how living at Powerhouse led them to Jesus, and how His transforming power has helped them overcome childhood abuse, addiction, and suicidal tendencies.
If not for the good hearts and gracious contributions of volunteers, Powerhouse couldn’t exist. We are grateful to The Gathering Place for helping us pay tribute to the generous volunteers who make our services possible.
Angel Tree this year was a wonderful success. We appreciate all the individuals and families that donated their time, money and other resources to make this event so valuable to the community.

We are so thankful for the extremely generous donation we received of a new facility! With our Market Street site, we are able to host our
Neighborhood Outreach Ministry Groups at their own location.
Our Youth Group is now meeting at 311 Market Street;
all other Ministry Groups meet at 313 Market Street at the same location.
