Sometimes in life …

you’re stuck with a storm and everything seems to be going wrong.  It’s like a car crash that you know is about to happen and you scream and shout but nothing can prevent the inevitable.

At Youth Group this month, we lost someone very dear to us.  To some he would be a friend, to others maybe a brother;  either way we all felt a little empty and the tears seems endless.

Luckily for us this is not where the story ends.  It’s funny how God works.  This month we decided to dedicate our lessons to be about trust.  We learned that the world will always fail us or lead us astray and the only person we can count on is the Lord.   Given this circumstance teens have found out first hand that the only real comfort comes from the Lord.

Things were really stirred up this month but God is doing amazing things and changing lives nonetheless.  It is amazing to see how far we have come as a Youth Group … or maybe better, a “family”.

It is truly amazing how He provides!

First of all, let me take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Eric Olds, and I am the new Facilities Supervisor for Powerhouse Ministries.  Though only a month has passed since I began my duties, I am already learning that here at Powerhouse we are regularly reminded of how God provides for our needs in amazing ways.

Through the generosity of a local, Christian businessman, we are currently in the process of acquiring an additional facility, which will allow us to expand our ministry, further serving children, youth, and families.  In September, Rolling Hills Church blessed us by cleaning up the grounds of the new building while also painting the interior of what will become the youth room.  Since then, we have received donations of couches for the youth as well as a refrigerator.  In October, Brink’s U.S. brought a crew of 50 volunteers to clean the new building’s carpet, improve the landscape at the existing Wales facility, and paint the interior of the downstairs Wales building.  We also received a donated washer and dryer, just prior to the old dryer beginning to malfunction.  It is truly amazing how He provides!

It is so amazing to see what God is doing in the youth. There are five teens in our Youth Group that are on fire for God. I realized the other day that three out of the five were once residents in our Family Transition Center. Even though today their parents are not walking with the Lord, these kids are wanting something different for their lives. During their stay at Powerhouse Ministries they tasted something different than the life they had experienced with their parents. It amazes me that they continue to come back and are taking incredible risks to follow God in the midst of a chaotic home environment.

“John” was the one that really touched my heart at this years Family Camp. “John” had received the Lord about 8 years ago here at Powerhouse Ministries.  He married his live-in girlfriend, stopped drinking and got a job with a christian landscape company.  Over the years, he stopped attending our Men’s Group and began drinking again.

At Family Camp, “John’s” teenage son went up to radically give his life to Christ.  “John” was standing in the back, sobbing, “What have I done?  What have I done?”.   He kept saying to himself,  “Look at my son, look at my son. I have to change my life now!”

God used this man’s son to call him back into a relationship with Him.

Letter from a resident …

Dear Fellow Believers,

I hope your spirits are up and God is working miracles and pouring blessings upon you.

I am a resident here at Powerhouse and we have had a devastating blow of news rise upon us.  I moved into Powerhouse about a month and a few days ago.  When I entered the program, I believed to be at my lowest point.  The only hope I had was in God and that this program would draw me into a closer relationship with God.

My background consists of a lot of broken relationships, child abuse, molestation and foster care.   I just contacted my mother for the first time while here at Powerhouse.  I am now twenty years old.  Powerhouse has brought out a lot of memories I’ve stuffed through the years.  My quest/walk with God is so emotionally strong sometimes I think it’s unbearable.

When the residents and I were told about the financial situation, I began to lose hope, lose faith and doubt that God was the One who brought me this far.  But as I began to pray over the situation and began to worship, I knew in my heart this to shall pass.  I’m praying for God to work a miracle and help us financially and I pray this will touch your heart and be a miracle worker for us.

We appreciate you all!

Sincerely,

A Powerhouse Resident
